In September of 1948, Area Q and Area V were combined to form Region 8 as part of the 1948 integration into the twelve scouting regions.

By 1949, Region 8 consisted of three areas: 8-A (Missouri and Tamegonit 147 from eastern Kansas), 8-B (Iowa), and 8-C (NE, western KS, WY, and CO):

A new Area 8-A was formed from lodges from Iowa, and held its first event in 1953. Winnebago 453 disbanded in 1952, and then rechartered in 1953. It later changed its name to Bo-Qui 453 between 1955-57.

Wisaka 170 (Sac N Fox Council, Moline, IL) and Golden Eagle 313 (Buffalo Bill Area Council, Davenport, IA) merge to form Muc-Kis-Sou Lodge #170 in Area 7-E. The new lodge straddled the boundary between Illinois and Iowa, hence the new council's name Illowa, based in Davenport, IA. This merger also moved the Region 7-Region 8 boundary westward to encompass the former Buffalo Bill Area Council.

By 1951, Cha-Pa 97 was transferred to Area 8-C, while the other four lodges went back to Area 8-A:

As a result, Golden Sun 492 was split roughtly along chapter lines into three lodges: a new Golden Sun 492 (Cornhusker), Three Arrows 510 (Tri-Trails), and We-U-Shi 517 (Overland Trails).

Indeed, the original Golden Sun Lodge was created from the merger of three different tribes of an earlier honor society: "In 1953, the Order of the Golden Suns of the Tribe of the Quivera voted to join the OA. At this time, the three tribes at Lincoln [492], Grand Island [517], and North Platte [510] became the Golden Sun Lodge 492."
