On August 14th 2008, the Western Region announced the final section alignments, increasing from 12 to 13, which are effective following each conclave this year, the last being Section W-4C's on November 9th.

• On Nov 12, the official section designations were announced.
  The new sections are using geographic descriptors: N = North, S = South, E = East, W = West, and P = Pacific. It appears that the areas were also renumbered.
  
  
• Tiwahe 45, which was reassigned to Section W-4S; however, its council, San Diego-Imperial, remains in Area 6.

I personally would like to see this as an example for perhaps keeping sections intact during a region/area realignment. While it's understandable that areas are ran by professional scouters at the Area level, its nice to see some flexibility in the management of OA sections-- especially if they are able to delegate more responsibility to the volunteer leadership.
